Lasers and experimental weapons are worse than pistols and pipes. PSI powers are a world of their own, and obviously confronting the enemy with old fashioned violence is a fun choice for a FPS. Navy does have a slight boost there, but it's practically irrelevant. Maybe if hacking is crucial, all the classes have to be able to hack. Navy is kinda just a little less dumb than a brick and can hack stuff slightly earlier. Maybe if Repair wasn't worthless and Research was better implemented? As it is, the dumb as brick Marine can be agile, good with all weapons or melee, and skilled enough with electronics and research. Presenting a massive explorable environment that is the UNN Rickenbacker, with over 13 weapons separated into four distinguishable classes, System Shock 2 was light years ahead of its time.Hack and Cyber is pretty good, but otherwise the Navy really doesn't have much shine. These Powers require the player to carry a Psi Amp – or a small, metal device serving as a vector for your powers. Agents are allotted a set of Psionic Powers/Disciplines, or abilities that the player uses both offensively and defensively.

Marines begin with bonuses to weapons, where Navy Officers are trained in hacking and repairing, while O.S.A. In the beginning, the game offers the choice of a career path, as you are a member of the Unified National Nominate – a futuristic military organization. Serving mostly as a survival horror with then-innovative RPG elements, System Shock 2 allows players to craft their own character in Psi Disciplines/Powers – broken down into a five tier model. Jointly developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios, System Shock 2 continues to inspire many games in the genre.
